Dr. Ulrich Eder is a retired former German lawyer (Rechtsanwalt) and Certified Tax Advisor (Steuerberater). He was admitted to practice before the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf (Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf) and a member of the Düsseldorf Bar Association. He retired in 2021. His law firm is closed and he has, therefore, returned his professional licenses to practice as an attorney and tax advisor.
Dr. Eder studied German law at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität in Erlangen, Bavaria, and Westfälische-Wilhelms-Universität in Münster, North-Rhine Westphalia. He received his Ph.D. in Law (Dr. jur.) with honors in 1990 from the Westfälische-Wilhelms-Universität in Münster with a doctoral dissertation on the topic “Das Pfandrecht am Anwartschaftsrecht des Vorbehaltskäufers”.
In 1989, Dr. Eder began his career at KPMG Peat Marwick in Düsseldorf, Germany where he acted as a tax manager in the practice areas of national and international tax counseling, tax structuring, corporate restructuring, management and negotiation of industrial settlements, especially for Japanese banks and companies.
In 1994 he joined the law firm Hölters & Elsing in Düsseldorf (now Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe) where he gained further experience concerning legal and tax aspects of domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, international tax structuring and cross-border business relocation and privatization of federal and state government agencies.
From 1996 to 1998 Dr. Eder served as a tax advisor at an affiliate entity of Pricewaterhouse Coopers Germany focusing on municipal taxation issues, privatization and restructuring, municipal leasing, and cross-border leasing.
1998 he founded his own boutique tax consultancy firm and advised in the areas of cross-border-lease, project financings, BOT models, public-private-partnerships, non-recourse financings, and other types of municipal and governmental finance. This included the preparation and monitoring of detailed and extensive risk-management systems for the controlling and monitoring of long-term financial transactions.
He moved to Thailand in 2007 to join the Bangkok office of Roedl & Partner and, in 2009, joined the U.S. law practice Mulvana, de Angeli in Bangkok.
Since 2011 he has been Director and Co-Owner of an independent Bangkok investment law firm . The law practice had been focussed on foreign direct investments in Thailand's industries, properties, and people. This included the full scope of company formations, land acquisitions, and cross-border tax planning. The law firm had a special knowledge and reputation in the sectors of renewable energy (solar and wind energy), financial services and cryptocurrency ventures, agriculture businesses including cannabis, and Thailand's maritime sector. The law firm is closed for good since April 2021.
After a multilayered and fulfilling professional life of 30+ yeaers, Dr. Eder is a highly skilled veteran practitioner with diverse experience across industries, disciplines and geographies. During his active time as a German lawyer and tax advisor, he managed and led a large number of successful, sometimes exotic cross-border transactions in the field of financing, restructuring and foreign investments in Europe, USA, and Southeast Asia.
Dr. Eder is Presidente of an independent strategic advisory firm, that has been duly set-up in 2008 under the laws of Panama. The firm provides guidance in evaluating major strategic decisions, such as mergers and acquisitions, family business succession, management buyouts, divestitures and financing opportunities.
Since his retirement in April 2021, Dr. Eder has been living as a private citizen abroad. Despite his considerable travel activities, he is available on a case-by-case basis as an advisor, interest representative and, if necessary, as an investor for innovative projects particularly in the field of Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies, financial services, and offshore ventures.
